Home Performance with ENERGY STAR begins with a top-to-bottom visual and diagnostic home energy assessment by a specially trained contractor using state-of-the-art equipment. The assessment process takes 3-6 hours and includes the following:
Whole-house visual inspection for visible air leaks, water infiltration, adequacy of insulation and ventilation, doors, windows, HVAC equipment components, plumbing components, etc.
Door blower test intended to identify and quantify air leakage rate in ACH (Air Changes Hour)
Duct blaster test intended to quantify duct leakage rate (measured in %)
IR infrared scan of concealed areas for insulation adequacy and air infiltration.
Multiple gas leakage and combustion safety tests intended to prevent hazardous conditions after tightening up the building envelope.

Within 3 days of the whole-house assessment, we will provide you with a comprehensive report including an ABCD prioritized list of recommended improvements based on cost-effectiveness. It will also reflect on available Federal tax credits and local utility incentives for applicable efficiency improvements.

Once you select the improvements that fit your needs and budget, our technicians will make the specified improvements to your home. All work performed by us is supervised by a BPI building analyst for compliance with HPwES program requirements. On most projects it takes several days to punch-out the list of required updates.

Upon completion of improvement work we conduct an abbreviated assessment to ensure that the improvement work delivers expected results. A short copy of your assessment reports and work scope is sent to Southface Institute , regional leader in Green Building technologies" for third-party verification.

Upon successful verification of our work Southface issues a Home Performance with Energy Star certificate in your name. If applicable, your power service provider issues cash rebates.
